Wellbeing is defined as: The capabilities necessary to thrive, contribute and respond positively to the challenges and opportunities of life. It describes a person’s optimal experiences, physical health and psychological functioning, and involves factors like positive emotions, life satisfaction and mental flexibility. We are dedicated to allowing all the students in our care - to LEARN, FLOURISH &THRIVE – developing their full potential academically, socially & emotionally, physically and spiritually, this encourages our students to develop self-respect, self-discipline, emotional regulation, empathy, responsibility, respect for themselves, others and our community.
Our college is steeped in the tradition of giving witness to our Kildare Ministries Values, Student Wellbeing naturally emanates from these values and from our Vision and Mission Statements.
For Student Wellbeing and Belonging – the development of our overall whole school framework that covers all dimensions of growth while also having a tiered approach to the supports we have in place that range from universal strategies to more targeted individual support for those that will require it. Universal strategies such as our Pastoral/Wellbeing program are key aspects of our wellbeing program as well as our student support services such as our Learning Diversity and Counselling departments.
Our Counselling department recognises that adolescence at times can be challenging and that the varying demands of family, friendship and study can make it difficult to cope with. In recognising these concerns students may benefit from accessing the counselling services to manage and work through these issues that may be impacting on their personal and school life.
This is linked to the research carried out by Monash and Melbourne Universities that focussed on High Impact Wellbeing Strategies conducted by the Victorian Government
The Seven Key elements of building wellbeing are identified as:
Wellbeing for Learning and Learning for Wellbeing. Our Programs support all members of our community to Learn, Flourish and Thrive.
